Each year when we bottle we go through our collection of idle moments to choose the perfect ones to share on the back labels of our new wines. To prepare for bottling next week we have selected three idle moments that we found well suited to our new wines:
The 2012 Grenache
Overlooking the majestic waterfall as the thunderous splash echoed through the canyon, the sun kissed the sea one last time before turning the sky into an array of vibrant colors. Bending on one knee, with raised ring in hand, my trembling words released. Her tears, smile, and immense embrace said, “yes”. The hidden bottle of wine was opened with ease as we laughed and drank to the adventures that lay ahead.
We felt this special moment was nicely complemented by the fruity and smooth Grenache with a hint of spice to add an extra bit of joy to such a monumental occasion.
The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc
Standing on the balcony, full glass of nectar in hand, I stare into the abyss of reflections from the buildings that surround. I watch the lights dance as the city moves.
A slow trickle of friends make their way into my apartment. Each one gives their own version of congratulations on the decision to resign and create a new path. More bottles are opened, laughter bounces off the walls. I stand idle, suddenly certain that a new dream is within reach.
A moment of change and inspiration matched perfectly with a refreshing glass of crisp and delicious Sauvignon Blanc to get the party started.
2012 Syrah
The fog was creeping over the bluffs like long fingers as the sun began to set on the horizon. A crisp wind hit my hand and led me to grip the glass a little tighter. I wrapped the blanket closer to my shoulders and took a sip. As the deep red liquid ran through me I felt a sudden warmth spread across my cheeks and a smile break over my face. My mind filled with glimpses of the juvenile adventures and endless laughter that had occupied the weekend. The taste of joy lingered on my lips as I absorbed my idle moment.
A moment of quiet reflection on a cool night always goes down nicely with a glass of full-bodied, belly-warming Syrah to solidify feelings of contentment.
