The Hot Box Grill in Sonoma California is one of our favorite places to dine. Owned and operated by Norm and Addie Owens, the duo know how to run a great restaurant. Working as a chef his whole life, Norm finally decided to grace the world with his unique culinary talent and open his own place.

At Hot Box everything is sourced locally, including their wine list. They are the last restaurant to carry the 2007 Idle Cellars Syrah, but not for long as there are very few cases left. We ate there last night, before our first harvest of the season and were again thoroughly impressed. We ordered the hand roasted mini Poblano peppers with pink Himalayan salt as a snack before dinner along with a bottle of the 09 Overlook Landmark Chardonnay.

The Melon Carpaccio with crispy Pancetta was delightful. Norm sent out an Heirloom tomato salad with basil and fennel, a treat with this years late summer vegetable harvest.

For our mains, we ordered and shared a shell pasta dish with pancetta, tomatoes, greens, peppers in a cream sauce, and Norms amazing duck confit.

Next time you’re in Sonoma, stop by for a glass of wine and a very affordable tasty meal and get Idle.
