Discover our Sangiovese

For a variety that has been growing for over a 1000 years, Sangiovese tells a story of what was, what is, and what can be.

What makes our Sonoma Sangiovese unique

Sourced from the Speedy Creek Vineyard in the Knights Valley of Sonoma County, our Sangiovese is handpicked at the first light of dawn. After a cautious hour drive to the winery in Kenwood, the fruit is handsorted and destemmed.

We cold soak the berries for 3 days, then the tank is heated for fermentation. Pump overs twice a day for 15 minutes each for first 3 days, then punchdowns twice/day til grape juice is dry. Pressed and aged for an average of 18 months, in 100% French Oak barrels, 30% which are new.

Sangiovese memories with Speedy Creek Vineyard...

Our first year , 2013, working with Dave and Speedy Creek Vineyard is a year that stands out. Realizing we have a kindred spirit with Dave regarding life and vineyard practices. A year where weather was all over the place and the small changes we made with the vineyard maintenance to assure a balanced, lush, ageable wine.

A decade later, during the 2022 harvest, where the next heatwave was hours away, we had precision focus and well speed while harvesting the Sangiovese before the sun poked over the trees on top of the mountain. Dave, his crew, myself, and a few friends, were able to knock it out with time to enjoy the rest of our lukewarm coffee.

What our Sangiovese truly tastes like...

Sangiovese tastes like a museum in a Tuscany small town in Tuscany as nonni’s cooking whaffs around the neighborhood. Sangiovese is pure unadulterated Italy, from medium tannins, medium acidity, medium body. Fruit forward with gentle textures. A savory wine where cherries, roasted tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, dried herbs, and roses find their way in the palate.
